Longhorns Win: 29 - 14
On Wednesday December 6th the Lady Longhorns hosted TVCS.  Last year the two teams clashed in an epic battle where Lone Star came from behind with an 18-1 run to end the game with a victory.  This year was going to be different in the way that Lone Star wouldn't need a big run to end the game.  From the onset of the game Lone Star was in control.  The Lady Longhorns jumped out to a 10-2 first quarter lead and a 15-5 halftime lead.  Avery P. had a great first half with 5 points including a first half buzzer beater.  The second half proved to be more of the same with Lone Star controlling the game.  As the final buzzer sounded, the scored board read 29-14.  It was a great team win.  5 of the 8 players scored but all players contributed with solid play defensively.  Bre C. led the way on offense with 10 points, while Avery P. had 7 and Alivia T. had 6.  Sierra A. collected several rebounds and Rylee S. picked up multiple steals.  With the win the team improved to 6-5 on the season.  Good luck next week in the end of season tournament, Coach Rigsby.

Longhorns Win: 41 - 27
On Wednesday November 29th the Lady Longhorns traveled to Vallivue.  Right after the initial tip Lone Star showed a speed of play which Vallivue could not stay up with which led to consistent baskets throughout the game or fouls resulting in free throw attempts.  This aggressiveness netted the Lady Longhorns 24 free throw attempts on the game.  Lone Star came away with a 41-27 win.  7 of the 8 players scored in the game.  Ariya H. led the way with 11 points and 10 Rebounds, while Bre C. had 8 points and Bethany K. had 7 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. Rylee S. was the MVP of the first half with 4 points and numerous steals.   It was a great team effort with all players contributing.  Nice job and good luck going into the last week of the regular season where we play against cross town rival South and Treasure Valley Catholic Schools, Coach Rigsby.

Longhorns Win: 23 - 22
On Monday November 27th Lone Star took on Caldwell after an extended layoff from Thanksgiving break.  Caldwell took advantage of Lone Star early in the game with physical scrappy play and got an early 10-0 lead.  However, Lone Star battled back and closed the gap to 10-6 at the end of the first quarter.  The second quarter was very tight with neither team having much offensive success.  The halftime score was 12-8.  Coming out in the 3rd Quarter Lone Star took control with an early 3 by Bethany K. and a nice basket from Breanna C.  The game stayed tight up until the very end with both teams exchanging leads.  Fortunately Lone Star was able to end the game on top with a 23-22 win.  Bethany K. led the way with 9 points.  Faith H. had some great hustle plays.  The team defense after the start of the game was stout and individually Avery P. and Alivia T. hounded the Caldwell guards.  Nice job and good luck on Wednesday versus Vallivue, Coach Rigsby.

Longhorns Lose: 33 - 34
On Monday November 13th the Lady Longhorns hosted the Huskies from Emmett.  Last year the Longhorns faced Emmett in the first game of the season and were easily outmatched.  This year the Longhorns would be better prepared for Emmett.  Emmett jumped out to a 7-4 first quarter lead and then held the lead at 15-14 at half.  In the 3rd Quarter Lone Star took the lead and led it 24-22 going into the 4th.  Lone Star took the lead 28-24 and seemed to be gaining contol of the game in the final quarter when Emmett went on a pivotal 8-1 run to take the lead.  With a couple minutes left Lone Star fought back to get in the game but came up just short at the end falling 34-33.  On offense Ariya H led the way with 14 and Avery P had 6.  6 of the 8 players scored.  Sierra A. pulled down some nice rebounds and Faith H. played in control with a nice press break.  Overall it was a solid effort but Lone Star fell just short.  Nice effort and good luck on Wednesday versus Middleton, Coach Rigsby.

Longhorns Win: 25 - 23
On Wednesday November 8th Lone Star hosted cross town rival East Valley.  Last year East Valley walked all over Lone Star.  From the onset of the game you could tell the Lady Longhorns were not going to let that happen.  Bethany K., Rylee S. and Alivia T. opened up the game by scoring to give Lone Star an 8-2 1st quarter lead.  The aggressive play continued in the 2nd quarter with Lone Star going into halftime with a 13-8 lead.  Breanna C. had multiple blocks in the first half to keep the Bobcats off the score board  In the 3rd Quarter East Valley woke up and scored the first 7 points to take the lead.  However the Longhorns got back into the game with a great shot by Faith H. and Ariya H.  The Bobcats took a 2 point lead at 19-17 going into the 4th.  In the 4th Lone Star played great defense and gradually took the momentum.  Avery P. started off the quarter with a nice basket off an out of bounds play to tie the game.  From that point forward Breanna C. took over the game and scored 5 straight points.  Alivia T. iced the game with a free throw to give Lone Star a 25-23 win.  It was a great team effort with all players contributing.  With the win Lone Star is now 3-2 on the season.  Next week Lone Star hosts two tough opponents in Emmett and Middleton.  Good luck and nice job ladies, Coach Rigsby.

Longhorns Win: 23 - 19
On Monday November 6th the Lady Longhorns traveled to Sage Valley to take on the Diamonbacks.  Early on it was apparent that Lone Star was the better team as the team played stout defense and jumped out to an early 4-0 lead.  Sage Valley would not concede though and rallied back to make it competitive.  The Longhorns led at half 10-8.  The third quarter has been the Longhorns Achilles heel this year so far but Monday the Longhorns put the ball in basket numerous times to help cushion the lead a little bit to 18-14.  In the 4th quarter the Longhorns were able to control the clock and ended up winning 23-19.  Once again 6 of the 8 players scored, everyone hustled on defense and worked together to defeat Sage Valley.  Alivia T. led the way with aggressive offense  (8 pts) and defense with multiple steals and numerous rebounds.  3 other players each chipped in with 4 points each (Rylee S., Breanna C. and Ariya H)  Nice job ladies and good luck on Wednesday versus East Valley, Coach Rigsby.
Girls 8A Basketball vs. Kuna Middle School

Longhorns Lose: 18 - 35
On Wednesday November 1st Lone Star traveled to Kuna for the first road trip of the season.  The Lady Kavemen are always a good battle.  Last year the teams game went down to the wire with Kuna edging out the Lady Longhorns at the end.  This year the battle would start off much the same way.  Early in the game it was apparent it would be physical and scrappy.  Unfortunately for Lone Star they got into early foul trouble.  However the team stayed in the game and were not overmatched.  The first quarter ended and it was 6-5 Kuna.  As the game progressed into the second fouls became a little bit more of a problem and Kuna extended the lead to 19-10 at half.  Another big quarter in the 3rd for Kuna sunk the Longhorns.  The final score was Kuna 35 Lone Star 18.  Even though the score did not look good, the kids competed and work their tails off.  Sierra A. was a beast on the boards, Rylee S. and Avery P. fought through injuries.  4 of the 8 players scored with Rylee leading the way with 7 points.  Next up the Longhorns travel to tale on Sage Valley on Monday November 6th.  NIce job versus Kuna and good luck versus Sage Valley, Coach Rigsby.

Longhorns Win: 32 - 14
On Monday October 30th, the Lady Longhorns looked to rebound after the season opening loss to Mountain Hoe with a matchup against cross town rival West.  Last year the Longhorns traveled to West and were in a battle which ended in a one point victory.  This year things were different.  From the onset of the game Lone Star was in control and showed they were the better team.  At the end of the 1st Quarter it was 10-0.  The lead was extended going into half to 16-5.  In the second half it was more of the same with Lone Star closing out the game 32-14.  Once again it was a very balanced game in which 6 of the 8 players scored.  Sierra A. led the way on defense by picking up tons of rebounds.  Faith R. played scrappy defense as well which resulted in a great assist to Avery P.  Bethany K. had the hot hand on offense and led the way with 12 points, while Alivia T. chipped in 8 points as well.  It was a balanced effort which showed the potential of the team for the season.  Great job and good luck moving forward, Coach Rigsby.

Longhorns Lose: 18 - 25
On Wednesday, October 26th the Lady Longhorns opened the 2017-2018 hoops season against Mountain Home.  The Longhorns were looking to start off the season where they left off from the 2016-2017 season.  Early in the game it was very apparent that the team had great chemistry and the season was going to be one to enjoy.  The Longhorns jumped out to an early 5-2 lead at the end of the first quarter.  In the second quarter, Lone Star extended the lead to 11-4 but then things tightened up as Mountain Home rallied to tie it 13-13 going into half.  Mountain Home continued to gain confidence in the 3rd quarter and held Lone Star scoreless but still only led 17-13.  It was apparent defense was a big part of the game for both teams.  In the 4th it was back and forth but ultimately Mountain Home kept the momentum and ultimately won the game 25-18.  Last year the same two teams played and it ended in much more of a lopsided loss for Lone Star. It was a great first game which showed the potential of the team.   All players contributed whether it be on offense or defense.  6 of the 8 players scored with Breanna C. leading the way with 7 points.  Nice job and good luck the rest of the way, Coach Rigsby.
