Longhorns Lose: 17 - 25
On Monday, December 12th the Lady Longhorns traveled to Emmett to take on Mountain Home in the first round of the 7th grade hoops tournament.  In October the Longhorns took in Mt. Home in game 2 of the season and still were trying to find out who they were.  The game ended in a 33-19 loss where Mt. Home exerted their will.  Since that loss, the Longhorns had improved exponentially.  Going into the game, Lone Star had a 4 game winning streak.  This game would be much different.  The first half was very competitive with the Longhorns trailing Mountain Home 11-8.  Our first matchup the halftime score was 22-5.  The second half proved to be a battle.  Mt. Home jumped out and extended their lead to 17-10 at the end of the third. Mt. Home extended the lead some more in the 4th quarter.  However, Lone Star would not give up and continued to match Mt. Home's intensity. At the end of the game Mt. Home prevailed with a 25-17 win.    4 players chipped in on offense.  Breanna C. led the way with 8 points, Ariya H. had 5 points, Avery P. and Bethany each scored 2 points.  The defense from the team was outstanding.  Rylee S. had her hands all over the ball forcing multiple turnovers.  Bethany K. took a charge and the team played great team defense forcing a 10 second backcourt violation, numerous travels and other turnovers.  It was a great season for the girls which showed tremendous improvement.  Congrats and outstanding job this year, Coach Rigsby.

Longhorns Win: 29 - 20
On Wednesday December 7th, the Lady Longhorns traveled to Boise to take on the Treasure Valley Catholic Schools.  The girls were up against a tough opponent and a tough gym to play in that was smaller both in width and length than traditional courts.  The game started well for Lone Star with a couple quick baskets from Rylee S. and Sierra A.  However, TVCS did not back down and quickly matched the Longhorns.  The second quarter and third quarters proved to be tough for Lone Star.  TVCS came out and out hustled the Longhorns and extended their lead to 19-11 by the end of the 3rd quarter.  With their backs against the wall, the team started chipping away at the lead.  Alivia T. hit a huge 3 pointer to cut into the lead.  Tremendous team and individual defense led to easy baskets for Lone Star.  Breanna C. dominated the 4th quarter with 10 points and multiple steals.  To put the icing on the cake, Bethany K. hit a backbreaking 3 pointer with just a few seconds left in the game.  The scored ended 29-20 Lone Star.  It was a total team effort in the victory. All 8 players played key minutes and made timely contributions.  One thing which really helped the team is turning a previous home court advantage for TVCS into a home court advantage for Lone Star with thunderous cheers from the Lone Star crowd.  The Lady Longhorns will look to continue their winning streak with a final regular season game versus Syringa on Thursday December 8th.  Good luck and keep up the hard work in preparation for a hopeful end of the season tournament, Coach Rigsby!

Longhorns Win: 17 - 16
On Monday December 5th the Lady Longhorns took on cross town rival South for an important game with tournament spots on the line.  From the get go both teams played stout defense.  Because of the defense being played points were going to be at a premium.  South got out to a 6-0 lead to start but Lone Star cut it to 6-1 at the quarter.  With the second quarter came a different Lone Star team.  Breanna C. and Ariya H. scored 4 and 2 points respectively.  Going into half the game was 8-7 South.  The second half proved to be more of the same.  The Lady Longhorns outscored South 8-3 in the third quarter.  Sierra A. made a coast to coast play for a lay up which gave the team a big boost in taking a 13-11 lead at quarter.  The fourth quarter showed Lone Star was truly the better team.  Ariya and Breanna each hit big baskets.  South had a chance for a game winning shot but Ariya blocked it as time expired.  Unsung heroes from the game were Avery P. and Rylee S. who played incredible defense.  Without each player, the victory tonight would not have been possible.  Nice work ladies, good luck against the Treasure Valley Catholic Schools on Wednesday, Coach Rigsby.

Longhorns Win: 32 - 6
On Thursday December 1st the Lady Longhorns took on Jefferson.  Early on it was apparent the Longhorns had recovered from their Thanksgiving break layoff.  The Lady Longhorns opened up an early 6-0 first quarter lead.  The lead was extended to 14-6 at halftime.  The second half proved to be pure dominance for Lone Star.  The team worked very well together to force tons of turnovers which resulted in easy baskets.  The final scored ended up 32-6.  6 of the 8 players scored.  Breanna C. led the way with 14, Ariya H. chipped in with 8, Bethany K. had 4, Rylee S., Alivia T. and Avery P. all added a basket.  Marlen R. and Sierra A. played great defense which led to easy opportunities for Lone Star.  With the win the team improves to 4-5 on the season.  As the season is winding down, the team is coming together and gearing up for a possible post season run.  Good luck this next week ladies as you finish the regular season with games against cross town rival South, the local Catholic schools and Syringa Middle, Coach Rigsby.

Longhorns Win: 21 - 20
On Wednesday November 30th the Lady Longhorns traveled to take on their rival West.  For much of the game it was apparent rust was a factor after the long layoff from Thanksgiving Break.  West played a tough zone defense which put Lone Star in a difficult spot.  The game was tight the whole way.  Going into the 4th quarter Lone Star was ahead 16-11.  However, West rallied and went on a 7-0 run to open the 4th quarter.  Breanna C. made 2 clutch free throws to tie the game 18-18.  West then proceeded to take a 2 point lead 20-18.  Once again Breanna C. came down the court, beat a defender and made a 16 foot jumper to tie the game.  The Longhorns played stout defense which led to a turnover.  Bethany K. drove to the middle of the court and was then fouled by West.  The foul led to a 1:1 free throw situation.  Bethany knocked down the first shot to take the lead 21-20.  The second shot rattled out and West got the ball until Lone Star stole it which ultimately sealed the game.  Breanna C.and Bethany K. led the way with 8 points and 7 points respectively.  Ariya H. had 4 points and Alivia T. chipped in with 2.  Overall the team played great defense and it was a nice win coming off the long layoff.  On Thursday Lone Star takes on Jefferson.  Good luck, Coach Rigsby.

Longhorns Lose: 28 - 38
On Wednesday November 16th, the Lady Longhorns traveled to Middleton to take on a talented team.  Coming off a dominate victory over Vallivue, Lone Star had a lot of confidence.  Early in the game, Middleton showed that they were a good team by opening up a 15-7 lead.  However, Lone Star cut the lead to 15-11 going into halftime.  The second half proved to be more of the same as far as a back and forth game remaining tight.  Breanna C. led the way offensively to keep Lone Star in the game.  Unfortunately in the 4th quarter when Middleton opened up the game and took a 38-25 lead.  Bethany K., hit a Steph Curry 3 from just inside half to cut the lead to 10.  The big shot was too little too late as Middleton prevailed 38-28.  Breanna C. led the team with 14 points.  Marlen R. got her first basket of the season to go along with outstanding defense as per usual.  It was a very good game from Lone Star and proved to be another stepping stone to helping build the teams confidence as the season winds down.  Nice job and good luck as you take on West Middle School on November 30th after Thanksgiving break, Coach Rigsby.

Longhorns Win: 32 - 11
On Monday November 14th, the Lady Longhorns took on Vallivue.  From the onset, the momentum gained from a great game versus an undefeated Kuna last week was on hand against Vallivue.  It was apparent from the opening tip that this game belonged to Lone Star.  The new calling card for the Longhorns is a stout 2-3 zone defense and a solid press.  The combination of good defense has led to easy offense.  Lone Star got out to an 11-4 lead at the end of the first quarter.  The Longhorns continued to set the tone through the second quarter by taking a 15-7 lead into half.  While the lead was only 8 points it was apparent Lone Star was the better team.  The second half proved to be more of the same if not even more dominance.  Lone Star jumped out and got 3 straight easy baskets to nearly double the lead.  From their the lead continued to grow to 21 points at the end of the game.  The ladies put together an excellent effort to cruise to a 32-11 win.  Ariya H. led the way with 10 points, while Alivia T. had 7 and Rylee S. had 6.  Several other players contributed with points, rebounds, assists and great defense.  Nice job and good luck on Wednesday when you take on a tough Middleton team, Coach Rigsby.

Longhorns Lose: 24 - 29
On Wednesday November 9th, the Lady Longhorns took on the Kavemen from Kuna.  Coming into the game Lone Star was 1-3 and Kuna was undefeated.  Early on you could tell this was going to be a very intense game.  Lone Star came out with a stingy defense that created many turnovers which helped them take the lead for much of the first half until Kuna hit a last second shot to take a 11-10 half time lead.  The third quarter was dominated by Lone Star.  Lone Star reeled off basket after basket to take a 7 point lead (20-13) at one point.  Kuna rallied back and cut into the deficit.  At the end of the third it was 22-20 Lone Star.  The game was going to come down to the 4th quarter.  Lone Star continued to control the game for the first couple minutes.  However, Kuna started exerting their will and took control at the end to finish with a 29-24 victory.  Overall it was the best game of the season for Lone Star and something to really build on.  Ariya H. led the way with 10 points and numerous steals and rebounds.  Bethany K. added another 6 points.  Marlen R. was a force defensively and Sierra A., did a great job rebounding the ball.  Nice game even in the loss.  Best of luck on Monday when you take on Vallivue at home, Coach Rigsby!

Longhorns Lose: 12 - 26
On Monday November 7th the Lady Longhorns traveled across town to take on East Valley.  The game was fast and intense from the get go.  Nonetheless the Lady Longhorns were up for the intensity.  After a slow first quarter, the game was tied 2-2.  In the 2nd Quarter Lone Star starting exerting their will by playing great defense and hitting some big shots.  The good quarter took the Longhorns into halftime with a 10-8 lead.  The second half proved to be a different game for Lone Star.  East Valley took advantage of their size to control the game in the second half.  The game ended up with a final score of 26-12.  Even though the score became a little bit lopsided, the girls played their hearts out. Ariya H. and Breanna C. each had 4 points, while Rylee S. and Alivia T. chipped in with 2 points each.  The team played great defense and did a nice job of running their zone offense against the pesky Bobcats.  Nice job and good luck on Wednesday, Coach Rigsby!

Longhorns Win: 22 - 10
On Wednesday November 2nd, Lone Star hosted Sage Valley for the first home game of the season for 7th grade. The first quarter was slow on the scoring front and ended in a 2-2 tie.  However, a different Lone Star team showed up starting in quarter 2. The aggressiveness of the Lone Star team led to numerous steals and easy baskets.  Going into half the Lady Longhorns were up 12-2.  The second half proved to be more of the same as Lone Star continued to push the tempo, force turnovers and extend the lead.  The final score ended up 22-10.  This score did not truly show the dominance of the team.  Avery P. led the way with 10 points.  An ultra aggressive Rylee S. and Marlen R. created havoc for Sage Valley.  Breanna C. had a number of nice blocks.  Overall it was a dominant win and is a great stepping stone for our next game versus East Valley on Monday.  Nice job and keep up the hard work ladies, Coach Rigsby.

Longhorns Lose: 19 - 33
On Monday October 31st the Lady Longhorns traveled to Mt. Home looking to avenge a loss from last week versus Emmett.  Bethany K. started the game off with a 3 pointer to give Lone Star an early lead.  Mt. Home took control from there for the rest of the first half with a tough press and good shooting.  At the end of the first quarter the score was 9-3 in Mt. Home's favor.  The second quarter was more of the same as Mt. Home extended the lead to 23-5 at half with a buzzer beater 3.  The second half proved to be a different game for Lone Star.  The ladies came out more aggressive with a press of their own.  Marlen R. and Rylee S. picked up steals that led to scoring opportunities for Lone Star.  The team really picked up its defense and forced Mt. Home into several bad passes.  The second half was a 14-10 Lone Star advantage.  However, Lone Star fell to Mt, Home 33-19.  Breanna C. led the way for Lone Star with 9 points.  Ariya H., Avery P. and Bethany K all chipped in with 4 points, 3 points and 3 points.  Nice job ladies and good luck on Wednesday with your first home game versus Sage Valley, Coach Rigsby.

Longhorns Lose: 18 - 34
On Wednesday October 26th, the Lady Longhorns traveled to Emmett to take on the Huskies for the first game of the basketball season.  Emmett came out fast and strong with a hard full court press to take advantage of their size, which led to an early double digit lead.  However, the Longhorns prevailed and continued to be patient against the press.    As the game progressed, the Longhorns started becoming more poised and adjusted to the physical play.  These adjustments by the players led to several scoring opportunities.  6 of the 8 eligible players scored for Lone Star.  What may have been more impressive was the individual and team defense against Emmett as the game progressed.  Overall it was a great game and opened the team's eyes for what to expect when they travel to Mountain Home on Monday October 31st.  Nice job and good luck moving forward ladies, Coach Rigsby.
